Abstract.
Duodenal diverticula occur in the retroperitoneal space medial to the second part of the duodenum. They are a rare cause of acute abdomen, but their relationship with a number of diseases of the pancreas and biliary tract is widely discussed. New cross sectional imaging techniques, which includes computer and magnetic resonance tomography allow their establishment. Within the 4-year prospective study we investigated the possibilities of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography to identify diverticuli of the duodenum. MRCP is a reliable method to detect the presence of duodenal diverticula. The method allows the determination of their size and volume and their attitude to the surrounding anatomical structures.
