MR mammography evaluation of complications after breast augmentation and oncoplastic surgery
- Ivanov, M. Peneva, G. Nakov, G. Kirova
Breast implant procedures have been performed for augmentation, correction of congenital abnormalities and post-mastectomy reconstruction since the late 19th century. Early and delayed breast changes occur as a consequence from both the mammoplasty surgery itself and from its complications. These changes are diagnosed using ultrasound examination (US) or, in some cases, with mammographic examination. The high sensitivity combined with the low specificity of these methods mandate MR mammography as a reference method, to confirm or rule-out breast changes and to determine the subsequent treatment.
