|Pericardial diseases. Contemporary approach in MDCT and CMR imaging
|Different pathologic processes that result in variable clinical dysfunction affect the pericardium. Clinicians increasingly rely on cardiac imaging in the diagnostic workup of patients with pericardial disease. Continuous advances in
cardiac CT and CMR technology allow for an excellent visualization and characterization of pericardial pathology, making these tomographic techniques complimentary to echocardiography and cardiac catheterization. The review presents both normal and variant pericardial anatomy and several disease processes, either primary or secondary, which can affect the pericardium. The article aims to illustrate the multimodality approach together with the main principles in building MDCT and CMR protocols for diagnosing pericardial diseases.
