|Parapneumonic pleural complications’ imaging in childhood
Pneumonia is one of the most frequent reasons for hospitalization of children. According to many studies, between 28,3 – 60% of all cases with children, hospitalized with CAP, had been complicated with effusion and empyema. The major diagnostic problem continues to be the proper staging of the parapneumonic effusion and empyema in children by methods of diagnostic imaging, as this influences surgical management of the condition.In this review, we reveal the experience shared by various authors on this issue over the last two decades and clarifythe place of different methods of imaging in diagnostictherapeutic algorithm in children with parapneumonic pleural complications.
